Construction
The air-lux sliding window casement and facade system consists of a thermally separated aluminium profile construction with insulating glazing fitted from the interior or exterior. The double rail system can be installed at floor or ceiling level flush into the lateral window opening responds.
- The sliding window casement element is positioned on the exterior. The fixed glazing element is on the inside. The framework profiles of the fixed pane permit the integration of pivoting lights, pivot-hung lights, ventilation flaps or door frames, but these without profile system and change of surface element.
- Framework extensions are hidden by the external sliding window casement element, and the vertical framework view is only 66 mm. The roomspace flooring is level with the fixed pane framework and the sliding pane framework. In addition, 5900 mm x 3000 mm sized sliding window casements can be fitted from the exterior with suitable closure lifting gear.
- The entire system has been tested for compliance with the usual applicable standards by well-known testing institutions (ift Rosenheim in Germany, and the Empa in Switzerland) (e.g. driving rain impermeability, air permeability, burglar-proofing, etc.). A list of all test certificates can be found on the page Certifications / Tests
- The CE symbol designation of the systems and the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management certification ensure the highest product quality, from the planning through to the manufacturing and fitting, in compliance with the applicable European EN Standards and the German Industrial DIN Standards.
- Since the first installation of an air-lux system 8 years ago, more than 2,300 sliding window casements have been sold and fitted. Positive experience with the air-lux system technique in regard to reliability as well as its aesthetic and technical characteristics can assure architects and developers of the highest degree of functionality and quality value.
- air-lux provides a 10-year guarantee on seals, profiles and fittings.
Gap Variants
The combination of sliding window casements and fixed glazed elements in an insulated aluminium framework construction, with proven profile technology, enables great flexibility in facade construction. A selection of possible opening types can be found in the following list.
- A variety of sliding element arrangements
- Great variability with different types of opening
- Sliding window casements can be opened angle-crossed (in whole glass optic or with profiles)
- Interior flush slides without central pillar in whole glass design
- Each air-lux facade element can accommodate a standard window light (pivoting or pivot-hung) or even a door frame.
Special designs
The air-lux technical advisory department will be glad to provide details of special designs.
Burglar-proof / surveillance systems
The air-lux system can be designed to meet the specific requirements of developers. The testing procedure to German Industrial DIN Standards DIN V ENV 1627 et seq., shows the level of performance of the various systems on the market – air-lux can claim the leader position up to Resistance Class 3.
- Strengthened profiles and fittings as well as special accessories (e.g. multiple latch and locking points)
Such hidden features are fitted seamlessly into the air-lux profile without encroaching on the slim profile design.
- Laminated security glazing on the roomspace interior side and alarm-activating glazing on the external side
Should a burglary attempt be made on the external pane and the pane shatters, an alarm contact burned into the glazing will trigger an alarm (e.g. acoustically). In addition, the internal laminated glass pane with its multi-layered construction will provide effective protection against any type of tool (depending on the burglar-proof classification selected).
- Electronic components for the surveillance of the latching position of the sliding window casement or the locking facility with information to the BUS control (alarm equipment, motion detector, etc.)
The wiring of the alarm pane in the window framework is carried out by air-lux in the works. The transmission of the signal from the sliding window casement to the window framework construction fixed to the building shell is carried via special electrical contacts.
The latching and locking points can also be electrically monitored. air-lux fits the connections and wiring in the works. On site, a connection need be made only to the building control system (alarm equipment, BUS system, etc.).
- Bullet-proof glazing
Bullet-proof security glazing can be fitted into the air-lux 173 profile series up to an element gauge of 60 mm. air-lux guarantees the highest degree of protection for persons and property.
Wheelchair accessible
The air-lux facade system incorporates features for disabled persons:
- The incision in the flooring necessary for the floor-level and ceiling-level construction can be closed over with a profile flap covering
- When the sliding window casement is opened, the profile flap covering is automatically raised, and when closed the covering returns to situ.
- The stable flap mechanism thus enables the area to be negotiated with a wheelchair without difficulty.
- The mechanism is accessibly installed under the exterior covering of the patio (e.g. stone flags, wooden lath decking, etc.).

Sealing system
The excellent constructional properties of the air-lux facade system are achieved in particular through the patented pneumatic sealing system.
Latching / locking
- When the sliding casement window pane is closed, the pneumatic back-up seal is inflated at the press of an impulse button located in the framework
- The gap between the fixed pane element and the sliding pane element is eliminated by the seal pressed on to the sliding window casement
- In addition, the sliding pane element is locked via a closure bolt, which will prevent break-ins (burglar-proof testing up to Class RC3 / WK3)
Opening / unlocking
- To open, the seal is exhausted via an impulse from the press button
- The seal withdraws to its original position and the sliding window casement can be moved
- The withdrawal of the seal (—->auto mechanism of the seal) will not encroach on ease of movement of the sliding pane by residual seal friction or bristles
- Ease of movement is thus ensured
Pneumatic air generation
Weights / drives
- The running rollers are manufactured of special steel with high-grade ball bearings, which are suited to weights up to 1500 kgs, and enable propulsion from a low position and provide smooth soundless movement.
- For weights above 500 kgs to 600 kgs (ca. 10m2 Fläche), air-lux recommends an electric drive for sliding pane elements.
Guarantee
air-lux provides a long-term 10-year warranty on the sealing system, profile techniques and fittings.
Air gap / fly screens
Air gap
Permanent ventilation of the interior roomspace is obtained via a second latch / locking position on the sliding window casement.
- Sliding window casements can be opened to a maximum of 100 mm with fall protection still in place
- Burglar-proof facilities can be maintained via key-operated switches or by integration into a BUS system
Fly screens

Fly screens can be fitted on the internal side of the window framework.
- Vertical or horizontal fittings are possible
- A motorised drive provides controlled and balanced movement with low wear and tear
- Maximum size for a horizontal design (width x height) 1300 mm x 2800 mm
- Maximum size for a vertical design (width x height) 3000 mm x 2400 mm and/or 2700 mm x 3600 mm
Sunlight protection / blacking-out
Sunlight protection
In cases of large surface-area glazing, a good sunlight protection system is extremely important, along with the correct insulating glass, to ensure a pleasant temperature.
- Avoidance of overheating and glare
- Additional energy savings
- In summer, heat radiation can be retained and pleasant roomspace temperatures enjoyed
- In winter, an intelligent control sunlight protection facility diverts the sunlight energy into the building and cost savings in heating can be obtained
- The air-lux system enables a sunlight protection system to be fitted in the vertical framework profiles
- The lateral guidance of the sunlight protection facility (stainless steel cords or rails) can be attached directly to the air-lux sill construction
- air-lux will plan the shades and the supply, erection and preparation of the sill construction

Black-out
To ensure greater privacy, black-out systems can be fitted on the roomspace side of the elements. As with the sunlight protection facility, this can be planned and ordered directly with air-lux.

Water gutters / water barrier height
In cases of facades with connections directly to the floor or ceiling, it is extremely important that the connection details are correctly constructed, especially concerning the building’s structural requirements, such as thermic separation, or water and steam impermeability.
The substructure of the air-lux facade elements are designed in such a manner that the external waterproof layers adhere directly to the substructure. The requisite adhering flanges are adapted by air-lux to address various constructional situations, and the substructure manufactured to suit.
Depending on the exterior rendering, there are a variety of design possibilities:
Closed rendering (paving stones)
In such a case, air-lux recommends the setting of a water gutter to the front, which can be adjusted to comply with the building construction. The sheet-metal covering can be punctured with various drain holes. If required, the stone dashing of the patio can be led to the facade in place of a sheet-metal covering, provided that drainage of surface water is ensured.
Open rendering (patio grid)
Depending on the covering, an inclination of the deck away from the facade might be suitable with a sufficient number of water disposal ducts. Otherwise, a water gutter should be set to the front.
